SITE BUILDER RANK.

About Us

Who's Behind Site Builder Rank

We're a small team of web designers and front-end developers who got tired of watching people sign up for the wrong website builder based on a "top 10" article that was really just an affiliate-commission ranking in disguise. Somewhere between a friend asking "is Squarespace actually worth it over Wix?" for the third time and reading yet another listicle that clearly never opened a single editor, we decided to build the resource we kept wishing existed.

Our Testing Promise

Before a builder gets a published score on this site, we've signed up for a real account, built an actual multi-page site with real content and images, connected a custom domain where the platform allows it, and — for builders with commerce features — set up a working store with real products and a test checkout. We're not summarizing a vendor's own pricing page or repeating whatever a builder claims about itself in its marketing copy. Every number here traces back to hands-on time inside the actual editor.

How a Builder Earns a Spot Here

We don't cover every website builder that exists — there are dozens, and most aren't mature enough to be worth a reader's time. We prioritize platforms with a genuinely varied, well-designed template library and a long enough track record to judge fairly. A brand-new builder with a handful of templates and no history gets left off until it has something real to test. If a builder we already cover declines in quality — a redesign that breaks things, a pricing change that guts the free tier — we say so in an updated review rather than quietly leaving an old, flattering score in place.

Where We Draw the Line on Objectivity

Every comparison site claims independence, so we'd rather show it than just state it. Our Disclosure page lays out exactly how our revenue works and why it can't touch a score — testing happens first, any commercial relationship gets sorted out afterward, and the two never talk to each other. A builder declining to work with us commercially changes nothing about how thoroughly or fairly we cover it.

The People Writing These Reviews

Every review is signed by an actual person, not a house byline. Each writer's profile links to a page describing their background — what they've designed, built, or launched before joining this project — because you should be able to check who's making a claim before trusting it. What We Mean When We Say "Best"

We use the word "best" carefully. On our main rating page, it means the highest score under our published, weighted formula — nothing more mystical. But the highest-scoring builder overall isn't automatically right for your specific project, which is exactly why we also maintain use-case-specific Best Website Builder shortlists that re-rank the same tested pool against a narrower question, like which one is genuinely best for a first-time seller or a photographer who needs a portfolio that loads fast.

Keeping This Current

Website builders ship editor redesigns, pricing changes, and template refreshes constantly, often with little public announcement. We treat every score as provisional rather than permanent, and we revisit builders on an ongoing basis rather than a fixed yearly cycle. Spot something that looks wrong or stale? Our Contact page is the fastest route to getting it fixed, and correction reports are usually the quickest thing on our list to verify.

Where the Name Comes From

We wanted a name that said exactly what the site does, rather than a vague "guide" or "hub" label — this is a ranking, built from testing, of website builders, nothing more mysterious than that. That plainness is deliberate: we'd rather the name undersell itself than have it imply an authority we haven't actually earned through real, hands-on evaluation.
